Day 2 Post
Solutions to 4 Barriers
As a teacher in your classroom, you are a leader. Remember that leaders always come with solutions! Think about the barriers that you listed. As a leader, what can you do to help overcome these barriers? What resources can you tap into that can help you overcome these barriers? Include any websites, blogs, videos, etc. that you find with solutions or suggestions for overcoming or minimizing these barriers.
1. The first barrier to using infused technology in the classroom would be lack of access to technology at home due to lack of access to the internet.
I would set up times before school or after school for the students to use the internet at school. We could also use a partner system where they could find a classmate or friend who has internet access.
2. The second barrier is the learning gaps that some students have due to lack of familial support at home to excel in school. A lot of our kids have to work or help take care of their siblings.
I would like to have a monthly family movie night that would get the parents here. We could provide movies and food. The kids could have access to the internet and get work done as well as entertainment. Maybe even provide an ESL class for parents.
3. The third barrier is lack of adequate infrastructure of technology at our campus. A new wiring system is being installed to remedy this. We also had a lot of netbooks that were needed repair for various reasons.
By getting new google books and rewiring the system this should fix it.
4. The last barrier to infusing technology is the willingness overall of the staff to adapt to the technology and implement it in a collective effort that connects all the subjects with technology.
For the Spanish/ FL Dept we have an Edmodo Site to communicate, share, etc new ideas and check on how things are going. It would help when we plan to do some cross curricular planning that way we can plan and extend the learning in our class to other classes. It makes the kids think when we tie in some pieces of another subject to our own. The kids question why are you teaching math, history, geography, etc. if this is Spanish class. My response is there is always something to learn. Multiple perspectives equal more information to pull from and hopefully increased learning.
